The Mass bears a quotation from a collection of poems by the late Charles Williams entitled Taliessin through Logres: 'he saw over the Empire the lucid flash of all flesh shirting white on the sullen white of the snow.'

On rite occasion of taie twenty-first anniversary of the BBC's External Services Alan Buidock recaps the part played during the war by 'the European Service and speaks of the problems of broadcasting to occupied Europe. The speaker, who is Censor of St. Catherine's Society, Oxford, was on irhe staff of tlhe European Service from 1940 to 194S.
