Although the C major Piano Concerto of Beethoven is numbered as No. 1 it was actually written after the No. 2 in B flat. An early work, it belongs to his first period when he was influenced by Haydn. It is a graceful work containing much nne music, and for the period it was written the style of the writing tor the piano is very effective. ORCHESTRA

Charles Ernesco was a violin pupil of Max Mossel at the Guildhall School of Music at the same time as William Primrose , and had the misfortune, he says, to follow him at every lesson. His first engagement of importance was as an extra with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Leeds Festival in 1925. In the following year he played at the Grand Season at Covent Garden and was in every Grand Season till 1932. In 1934 he formed his Quintet, which is one of radio's most popular light-music combinatiohs ; every original member is still with him.
He himself is the leader. There is a second violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano. Apart from his work with the Quintet, Charles Ernesco is appearing on the stage at the New Theatre, London, in She Too Was Young.

A short story written for broadcasting by Ella MacMahon , and read by the author
Here is as weird, yet as tender, a tale as ever came out of Ireland-the story of how the son of a great Irish house was born six months after his mother's death! When cholera came in Ireland years ago it swept the country indiscriminately, and the highest and the humblest of the land were laid low. It came to a great castle in Connemara to which the young owner had recently brought his bride, and then within a few days she was buried in the family vault. What happened thereafter on a night of storm and cold, is related in the words of an old housekeeper whose grandfather as butler to the castle went to the front door to answer what he knew was his mistress's knock.
