King George's Fund for Sailors was formed in 1917 as a debt of honour to the sailors of the Empire who paid the price that others might live. The endeavour is to aid with grants, where need is greatest, those nautical charities helping the seafarer, whatever his rank-whether of the Royal Navy, Mercantile Marine, or Fishing Fleet-his widow, and his children or other dependants.
Seamen's hospitals, orphanages, funds for widows and for aged or destitute sailors, and Samaritan funds at the ports-all are helped, provided they are in need.
H.M. the King, Patron, was for twenty years the President, until succeeded bv H.R.H. the Duke of Kent. H.R.H. the Duke of Connaught has been Chairman of the General Council from the beginning.

The scene is Holland and the Italian coast in the Fifteenth Century
Gerard, a young man of Tergou in Holland, is destined for the priesthood, but attempts, against his father's will, to marry Margaret, daughter of Peter Brandt. He is betrayed by his malicious brothers, Cornelius and Sybrandt, and imprisoned by the Burgomaster, Ghysbrecht van Swieten, who has in the past cheated the Brandts out of their rights in an estate. Gerard escapes, and on his way across Europe falls in with an arbalestier, Denvs of Burgundy. Denys is enrolled by force in a troop bound for the Flemish wars, and Gerard continues alone, not knowing that a free pardon has been obtained for both of them from the Duke. This news, written to him by Margaret, is intercepted by Cornelius and Sybrandt, who substitute a letter written by the Burgomaster to say that Margaret is dead.

In tonight's broadcast, the second of Walford Hyden 's new series about European waterways, listeners will hear some more about the River Danube. Once again a company of friends will assemble on board Henry Audin 's private boat to listen to the reminiscences of this eccentric old man who travelled about Europe with his orchestra before the war.
These are essentially restful programmes. In the comfortable lounge of the ship, to the background of music from a trio, Audin's friend Alec, and Alec's niece Florence, listen to the legends and tales of the river on which their boat lies.
Walford Hyden , of Cafe Colette fame, has among rivers on his schedule the Volga, the Rhone, the Dordogne, the Elbe, and the Thames.
