This morning K. C. Boswell, well known to listeners for his discussions on current questions in the light of their historical parallels, will compare the modern way of risk-sharing through stock-and-share companies with the methods used in the seventeenth century. The great stock-and-share system did not grow up overnight, but is the result of years of development from the days in which one merchant might suggest to a couple of friends that they share a risk profit in, say a cargo ship sailing for the Indies.
The broadcast will be partly in dramatic form, scenes such as the above being contrasted with others typical of today.

A programme of recorded music to commemorate Twenty Years of Independence

This afternoon's programme is in commemoration of the independence of Lithuania, Latvia, and Esthonia which was given to these three countries twenty years ago. The broadcast will consist of folk music, dances, and popular songs, played, sung, arranged, and composed by national artists. Listeners will also hear something about the countries themselves. The programme is being presented by Alfred C. Bossom, President of the Anglo-Baltic Society, who knows all three countries intimately.

'Mládí', the name of Janáček’s sextet for six wind instruments to be played this evening, means 'Youth', and nothing could be more typical of its composer. He was seventy when it was written, yet it breathes the very spirit of youth's exuberance and vigour. Even two years after that he said: ' I feel as though quite unexpected new worlds were opening within me', and to the end of his days he ranked himself along with the most ardent spirits of the modern movement.
