THE NANCY PHILLIPS QUARTET:
Nancy Phillips (violin) ; Jean Le Fevre (violin); Eileen Grainger (viola); Lilly
Phillips (violoncello)
It is now generally acknowledged that Haydn was a ' 'nationalist' composer, as definitely a Croatian nationalist as Dvorak was a Bohemian nationalist. The opening theme of the finale of the Quartet in C is practically note for note the same as a well-known kolo tune-the kolo being a Slavonic dance measure.

Martin Chuzzlewit ' by Charles Dickens
Chapter 47, ' Murder '
Read by V. C. CLINTON-BADDELEY
Of all the murder-chapters in Dickens, this which concludes ' the enterprise of Mr. Jonas and his friend ' is perhaps the most memorable. Memorable particularly for its restraint. With all his openhanded carelessness of technique, Dickens knew when to leave something to the reader's imagination.
