Masques et Bergamasques was one of Faure's last works, written in 1920, four years before his death. It is theatre music, composed and arranged for a scenario based by Rene Fauchois on Verlaine's ' Clair de lune ' and produced at the Paris Opera-Comique. Not all the numbers were new ; Faure used his song ' Clair de lune ', his ' Madrigal' for vocal quartet, and his orchestral ' Pavane ' of thirty years earlier ; but the interludes and some other movements were specially written.

Among the new.light music combinations that will be heard during the autumn is Karoly Klay and his Light Orchestra, which consists of three violins, 'cello, bass, clarinet, trumpet, drums, piano and cymbalum. A notable and interesting feature in Mr. Klay's repertoire is a Radio Trip through Europe, which is a sequence of national musical styles.

A Comedy in Two Acts by JAMES BRIDIE
James Bridie remarks in his article on-page 1 1 that ' there are various ways of taking The Black Eye'. And he tells you what they are. Elsewhere he has said that its mora) is that of 'The
Prodigal Son and of The Labourers in the Vineyard and of half the fairy tales in the world. It is that we are not justified by a catalogued series of sensible, social acts, but by something very much more extraordinary '. This combination of a Biblical moral with a theme that has more than a touch of fantasy is calculated to delight all who enjoy the comedy of surprise in ideas as well as in action.
Bridie scored his first big success in '933 with A Sleeping Clergyman. The Black Eye was produced at the Shaftesbury in October, 1935.
' The Black Eye ' will be broadcast again tomorrow at 8.0 in the Regional programme

EDA KERSEY (violin) Lully (1639-1687) was a poor Italian youth who was taken to France when quite young. He began his working life as a kitchen scullion, and was lucky enough to gain the favour of the young King, Louis XIV , who made him leader of his band. Being as clever a courtier as he became a composer, he found out that the French liked ballets and graceful operas, and pleased them by writing plenty of these, himself acting and dancing in some of them. This evening we are to hear four pieces arranged by the conductor, Felix Mottl , from various sets of ballet music written by Lully.
The Serenade in D, Op. 11, one of the two Brahms wrote early in his career, is the first of his published works for full orchestra. It is in the traditional form used by Mozart and his contemporaries, and contains the two delicate and exquisite minuets that so often appear as separate items in concert programmes.
