CARMEN DEL RIO (soprano)
The Leslie Bridgewater Quintet has been broadcasting regularly for the last five years. The instruments in it are a quartet of strings and a piano, which he plays himself. The personnel is recruited from the most famous string players, all of whom have appeared as soloists at Queen's Hall, and practically all the music played is specially arranged by Leslie Bridgewater.
Tonight that clever and charming singer, Carmen del Rio , is to broadcast with the Quintet for the first time, and on Saturday she is to broadcast with the Continentals for the twenty-fourth time. She is featured on page 8 in People you Hear '.

The Walker Cup, one of the most coveted trophies of the amateur golf world, takes its name from its donor, James Walker. He originally intended that the challengers should play the match in the country of the holder, but for various reasons-mainly economic -it was decided that the teams should visit each other alternately.
The match is between teams of eight aside and is played by foursomes and singles over thirty-six holes. It takes place every two years. The first match, played in 1922, was won by the Americans. And they have won every succeeding match, though the margin has been as narrow as one point. In an article on page 6 Peter Lawless discusses the prospects of the present British team.
Joe Loss and his Band broadcast in the National programme on Monday night. The story of the band is told on page 24.
