Armstrong Gibbs was born near Chelmsford in 1889, and was educated at Winchester College and Cambridge University... His musical studies at Cambridge came under the direction ot Professor E. J. Dent ; later he studied at the Royal College of Music, eventually joining the College staff as a professor of composition. Armstrong Gibbs has shown himself to be a composer of rare poetic: sensitiveness and a highly skilled and polished craftsman. He appears to favour chamber music and songs....for it is in these forms that he has done most of his best work. Th:' String Quartet, Op. 73, is one of his more recent compositions and shows his individuality and fine craftsman-, ship at its best.

'That the Public does not get the Films it Wants'

F. Heming Vaughan is founder and Secretary of the Merseyside Film Institute Society, an organisation that is one of the oldest and largest of its kind.
T. Ormiston , a Lanarkshire man, is a solicitor who is in his 'fifties In addition to being Hon. Treasurer of the Cinematograph Exhibitors' Association of Great Britain, he is Chairman of the Joint Trade Committee on British Films, which produced the report on which the Cinematograph Films Acts was based.

Carl Flesch was born in Hungary in 1873 and began to learn the violin at the age of six. After studying at the Vienna and Paris Conservatoires, he became the leader of the Queen of Rumania's private string quartet at twenty-three. While in Rumania he taught at the Bucharest Conservatoire and since then he has held professorial appointments at the Amsterdam Conservatoire, the Curtis Institute,. Philadelphia, and the Berlin State High School of Music.

This musical comedy was originally produced at the Prince of Wales Theatre,
Birmingham, under the title of Vivien in December, 1915, and was given its London run as My Lady Frayle at the Shaftesbury in March the following year. Cecil Humphreys, who played the part of Lucifer D. Nation both in : Birmingham and in London, is to broadcast in the part tonight. The plot is so excellent that rather more of it will be given in the radio version than is usual with musical comedies.
Briefly, Lady Frayle, a beauty past her prime, is in love with her ward,
Dick Bassett , who has eyes only for Virginia Desborough. Like Faust, she makes a bargain with the devil, who has taken the earthly shape of an American millionaire, Lucifer D. Nation. How she is changed into a young and radiant creature called Vivien Ingoldsby , the price she has to pay, and what comes of it all, is the pith of the play.
Lady Frayle is the most difficult part imaginable, being really two distinct characters in one. Only an actress of Edith Day's ability and versatility could give a convincing interpretation. Patrick Waddington, Betty Huntley Wright, Horace Percival, and Lawrence Baskcomb are other members of an exceptionally strong cast.
'My Lady Frayle' will be repeated in the Regional programme on Thursday at 8.40

This is the last of the series of weekly air talks which began on February 18. It consists of a symposium of the views of distinguished experts, drawn from all parts of the world, on the future development of aviation. The records will consist of short statements, each lasting a few minutes, putting forward each speaker's point of view on some aspect that is his particular interest.

The ' Siegfried Idyll Wagner's first purely instrumental work and perhaps the loveliest thing he ever wrote, was not originally intended for the world in general. It was Wagner's personal gift to his second wife, and it was only later that he decided to publish it and permit its public performance. For several years, Wagner had been living in retirement at Triebschen with Cosima, the divorced wife of von Biilow, and in 1869 she bore him a son whom they named Siegfried. Next year he married her and on her birthday (Christmas Day) gave her this delightful surprise-the ' Siegfried Idyll played by a little band placed on the stairs outside her bedroom door.
