In Devon one never seems to be far from the sound of water, either the .rushing streams of the moors, or the sea-breakers, or the quiet flow of the rivers. This perhaps is one of the reasons why Devon has sent so many of her sons to the sea. In almost every Devon home you'll find at least one sailor.
No description of Devon would be complete without saying something about the sailors of old times, the sea-dogs of Devon, whose voyages took them across unknown seas to the farthest corner of the world. And to-day in a dramatic interlude listeners are to hear songs and stories of these and other West Countrymen like Drake, Raleigh, Gilbert, and Grenville, who sailed the seas in the days of Queen Elizabeth.

For the first time since the Air-do-Wells were formed nearly two years ago Effie Atherton will be missing from the cast. She sailed for Chicago to join Jack Hylton at the beginning of the month. Another absentee is Marjery Wyn , now playing principal boy in pantomime at Glasgow. Their places are to be filled by Doris Nichols and Alma Vane : Doris, noted for her versatility, is to sing a sentimental children's song, ' Up the Wooden Hills of Bedfordshire ', and to impersonate a woman lion-tamer in a song of her own composition (preceding Claude Gardner in The Lion Tamer at Home, by Donald Kean ); and Alma has a new song, ' Just like a Fairy Tale', composed by Max Saunders , who does most of the scoring for the Air-do-Wells.
Tonight there are to be two comedy waltzes : (i) ' Oh, Flo, don't let him go ', being advice to young girls, by Fred Neville , who did most of the songs for the Step Sisters and the Dancing Daughters ; (2) 'A Cup of cold Poison beside me ', by ' Box and Cox'.
Among other features, Hindle Edgar is to do a monologue, ' The Harmonica Tremens ', by Anthony Hall , author of the ' thriller ' serial ' Terror by Night ', and a new song by Ronnie Hill about the market in Petticoat Lane, to be given by the entire company.
The Air-do-Wells will broadcast again in the Regional programme on Saturday afternoon at 4.15

E. Godfrey Brown is the son of Dr. E. Brown , well known in Lancashire music for fifty years. He began as a choir-boy, then studied the violin, piano and organ at the Royal College of Music, played in all kinds of orchestras and sang in various choirs. He then went back to the North and had much pioneer work for the Kendal Festival. Mr. Brown's next important post was as resident Director of Music to the Belfast Philharmonic Society. He formed the Belfast Symphony Orchestra, and in 1924 became Music Director to the Belfast branch of the BBC, now known as Northern Ireland Region. In this year's Honours List he was given an O.B.E.
