I — 'The Foundations of Morality'
Is man ruled by glands, by instincts, by economic factors, and the rest; or is there a dignity of human nature which enables him by God's grace to rise above difficulties and temptations ? These questions, and others arising out of the complications and difficulties of modern life are to be answered by Father D'Arcy, Master of Campion Hall, the Jesuit house at Oxford. He is the author of many publications and one of the greatest living English philosophers. His latest book, ' Pain of this World and the Providence of God ', reviewed in The Listener of December 12, made a valuable contribution to the solving of difficult problems.
The remaining talks will be given on February 16 and on March I and 15, and finally on March 22 Father D'Arcy will reply to questions and difficulties raised by listeners.

Frank Laffitte was born at Bromley in 1901. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music, where he won a scholarship and the Gold Medal. In 1920 Laffitte won great success with the playing of two concertos under Sir Landon Ronald at a Queen's Hall Symphony concert. During the next few years he appeared as soloist on several occasions at the Royal Albert Hall Sunday Orchestral Concerts, and since that time has appeared in most of the leading European musical centres.
Endreze, an American tenor whose real name is Andrews, was at one time a pupil of Jean de Reske. For some time he has been a member of the Paris Opera, and has been practically adopted as a French singer. Among many important rôles at the Paris Opera he has appeared in Milhaud's Maximilien and Chabrier's Gzcendoline.

An Appeal on behalf of the ROYAL FEMALE ORPHANAGE, BEDDINGTON, by the Right Rev. the Bishop of CROYDON The Royal Female Orphanage at Beddington, near Croydon, is believed to be the oldest girls' orphanage in existence, and celebrates its 178th birthday next month. It receives no Government grant and depends entirely on the support of the public.
Since 1915, election by the voting system has been in abeyance, and girls are taken in without delay as vacancies occur. Every girl is given a domestic training, irrespective of the situation she may enter at the age of sixteen.
There is accommodation for 130 children and £ 6,500 is needed yearly to maintain them. Of that expenditure £ 200 has to be paid in rates.
