In his broadcast talk on September 1 the Archbishop of York followed the teaching of Article XXXVII, which reads : ' It is lawful for Christian men, at the commandment of the Magistrate, to wear weapons, and serve in the wars.' This afternoon Canon Morris, who is an ' out and out' pacifist, will give his views. The Rev. J. S. Whale will sum up the arguments and conclusions of these speakers on January 26.

The author of ' The Mystic Way ' has always insisted that-with all its manifold activities-the primary object of the Church is to make its people holv. She is recognised as one of the greatest authorities on the great mystics.

St. Luke in his narrative of St. Paul's shipwreck says nothing of the Captain of the Alexandrian freighter in which St. Paul and his guards were travelling to Rome, but this adventure was apparently not the only one in the Captain's life. He had some strange experiences in shipping beasts for the arena from Africa and even from India, to Rome, and he met in the course of his life other historical persons. No one is better qualified to tell his story than Dr. T. R. Glover , whose knowledge of the period is as profound as is his delight in story telling.

An Appeal on behalf of THE ROYAL MERCHANT NAVY SCHOOL

During the war some hundreds of merchant ships, which rendered such inestimable services to the country, were commanded and officered by men who had been at the Royal Merchant Navy School, formerly known as the Merchant Seamen's Orphanage and founded in 1827. It maintains, educates, and places in employment the orphan children of our sailors.
This appeal was to have been made by the late Earl Jellicoe , who knew so well the great difficulties under which the Institution was carrying on owing to the depression in shipping. Countess Jellicoe has undertaken to make the appeal in his stead.
