This morning Mr. J. N. L. Baker is to discuss the Bombay Deccan, the Ghats (or mountain ranges), and the coast, where the heavy rainfall is in striking contrast with the slight rainfall inland, with very different effects on the vegetation.
He will tell listeners about the difficulties of navigation on the west coast, and describe Bombay Island and its harbour, the construction of the modern port, and the vast trade of the city. The railways up to the Ghats and the hydro-electric power the Ghats supply, the industries of Bombay which is the gateway of India from the West-these and many more things of interest will be discussed by Mr.
Baker.

This talk, the third of the series, continues the tour of the South-East •Corner of England which is being conducted bv S. P. B. Mais. This after noon listeners will be taken'to the Weald, a district once covered with trees, but now one of the finest agricultural areas in the country. Here can be found cottages huih of timber felled from the ancient forests, and brick fashioned from local clay. Many of them face picturesque village greens, on which cricket matches are a regular weekly event on Saturdays between May and September. And, passing throuph apple orchards and hop gardens, listeners will travel on to the higher ground where thick woods of oak and pine still stand-timber which was jn earlier times the mainstay of the ' wooden walls of .England '.

' The Mogul Empire in India '

It was Babur who was the first monarch of the great Mogul Empire in India. He began his life of conquest by defeating the forces of the Delhi Sultan. He gained this important victory despite the fact that his troops were vastly inferior in numbers. When he died in 1530 his territory stretched from the Oxus to the frontier of Bengal and from Gwalior to the Himalayas. This afternoon Professor Eileen Power will tell listeners all about him and his successors-and the eventual collapse of the Empire.

The question that Geoffrey Crowther will try to answer this evening involves important economic issues. The greater part of the nation's expenditure, of course, goes to provide the necessaries and the minor luxuries of life. Food, rent, and clothing are still the largest items, but significant changes in family budgets are now making themselves felt. Geoffrey Crowther will emphasise that if the standard of living is to be maintained, the nation must see that it also spends part of its income on maintaining and extending its stock of capital goods, such as roads, and power and manufacturing plant.
