In 1855 David Livingstone , one of the greatest pioneer missionaries and explorers of all times, discovered the Victoria Falls of the Zambesi, from which today's unveiling ceremony is to be relayed to listeners in Britain.
This heroic Scot, who at the age of ten went to work as a ' piecer ' in a cottonfactory and spent his first earnings on a Latin text book, changed the map of Africa. With infrequent intervals he explored the dark Continent for thirty years. He married out there, brought up his family, lost his wife, and, like her, gave his life to open up the country for others. The ordeals he suffered are as epic as they must have been terrible.

A slight programme is attached to the movements of this characteristically Spanish suite of Turina. It is as follows : In the first movement (Before the Mirror), the girl is standing before her mirror feeling very sad because she has no lover ; as she gazes, she realises her beauty and gradually becomes filled with hope, and there follows a hymn to beauty.
In the second (the Song of the Beauty Spot), she puts on a beauty spot to add to her charms and sings a soffg about it.
The third movement (Hallucinations), describes a vision of love which becomes frenzied and distorted.
In the finale (The Rosary in Church) the atmosphere of contemplation gradually calms the distraught girl, enabling her to face life and its realities with resignation.

An Appeal on behalf of THE CHURCH OF THE REDEMPTION, New Delhi, by Her Excellency the COUNTESS OF WILLINGDON, C.I., G.B.E.
This evening Lady Willingdon, the wife of the Viceroy of India, is to broadcast an appeal on behalf of the Church of the Redemption in New Delhi, the Indian capital. The total sum required was £7,500, of which about a quarter has been raised in India.
An appeal was made through the Press in England last February, but after arrangements had been made, news came of the terrible earthquake in Bihar, and the appeal which was made for the relief of the distress caused by the earthquake very naturally eclipsed that for the church at New Delhi.
It has now been decided to renew the appeal and to take advantage of the presence in England of Lady Willingdon to get her to broadcast in this country on behalf of a cause which she has so much at heart. The church is in daily use, but the tower is still unbuilt; certain improvements in the interior are urgently required and a Parsonage House is needed.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
