An appeal on behalf of THE WEST NORFOLK AND KING'S LYNN GENERAL
HOSPITAL by H. St. J. D. RAIKES, C.B.E., K.C.
TEN YEARS AGO King's Lynn Hospital was more or less a Cottage Hospital. Today, owing to a wholly specialist Honorary Medical Staff and a first-class reputation for its surgical achievements, it has grown to a General Hospital, serving a population of 120,000. Since it is situated on one of the busiest roads in the country, constant and increasing demand is being made upon the hospital's resources by people from all parts of Britain, particularly in connection with road accidents. The work of the hospital is therefore by no means confined to treatment of local residents.
In order to cope with the growing work, a scheme has been launched to extend and improve the accommodation at a cost of £60,000. About half the work has already been done. The
Hospital Governing Board are determined to mitigate the great hardship caused by long waiting lists, but the raising of a further £40,000 necessary is an uphill fight, because West Norfolk is an essentially poor district, being almost wholly agricultural.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to H. St. J. D. Raikes , C.B.E., K.C., [address removed]
