THIS MOVINQ PLAY, which is being relayed from Scottish Regional, is a first play by Mortimer Batten , whose popular animal stories have been read for years by ' Mac ' in the National Children's Hour.
The play is set in Scotland, and the weather is so threatening at the close of school hours that the mistress is anxious about two of the children who have a long walk home across the moor.
She expresses a hope that their father will meet them with a lantern, and they set out.
But the weather gets worse. They are caught in a blinding snowstorm, and seem likely to be lost. Meanwhile their father has sent his dog to find them. But. will the dog ever succeed ? You will be moved to pity and your heart will beat with excitement in this clever little play.

Breaks'
THAT master of four-figure breaks, Tom Newman , six times champion, is this evening to talk about them.
He was born on March 23, 1894, and started playing at nine years of age. He showed such facility for the game that when he was only eighteen he defeated the great John Roberts at Leicester Square. That was as long ago as 1912. The post-War years saw his feat of winning the professional championship six times between 1921 and 1927. He made the first break over a thousand with ivory balls, namely 1,024, in May,
1921, and is the holder of the world's record ivory ball break of 1,370, which he made on November 1, 1924.
During the six months' billiard season in 1932, he compiled thirty breaks over 1,000. He also returned an average of 200 for a fortnight's match.
He won the ' News of the World
Gold Cup ' in 1933, defeating Walter Lindrum , Joe Davis , and Clark McConachy , and toured Australia and America with Walter Lindrum in 1932 and 1933. But the year 1932 set the seal on the fame of the man who started to learn billiards as a little lad hardly big enough to bend over a table.

THIS SERIES, which has been planned to show something of the plight of the workless out of the mouths of the unemployed themselves, would not be complete unless a woman came to the microphone: for women bear the brunt of unemployment.
They have, of course, a job to occupy them, but it is a heartbreaking one. They see their children suffering hardship without the means to alleviate it, and what greater refinement of torture could a mother endure ?
Often, after paying a heavy rent, they have to try and supply food for growing and hungry children on a few coppers per head per day. The woman starves herself to do it. When, on top of this, the family is often a large one and crowded into one room, it becomes intolerable.
Frequently these women have struggled on for fifteen, twenty, or thirty years of married life without a night spent away from their one room. They find their youth and looks gone, their hopes broken by the trials and anxieties of keeping house under these conditions. Can one wonder at the impossibility of keeping a family happy and congenial when there is never a penny over to spend on amusement ?
They often walk half a mite to buy an article a penny cheaper. Nowhere are conditions more terrible than in the north-east of England-Sunderland, Jarrow, or Durham. From one of these districts it is hoped that a wife and mother will come to the microphone.
