5.40 Here and There, a summary of the week's news, by Commander
STEPHEN KING-HALL
HOWEVER BUSY the staff of Children's Hour may be in preparing programmes, in rehearsing them or taking a part in them at 5.15, they welcome letters from you. And yet your letters arrive at the rate of about five hundred a week.
As they' would like to answer them all, but cannot possibly find the time, they are dealing with a selection in the Children's Hour every now and again, and they want to tell you how helpful and interesting your letters are.
Letters come from all ages of children, and here are a few : Aged six : * Please can you read " The Water Babies" now Alice is finished ? ' Aged nine : ' I really love to hear "Mostly Mary " and Stephen King -Hall and " The Zoo Man ".' Aged fifteen : ' I wish that we could have some more " Mike " by P. G. Wode house, 'cause if I remember rightly he got stuck at a beastly school, and that's where he was left.' And last, but not least : ' I am a lone widow (not lonely) and seventy-eight years old, and I quite enjoy the Children's Hour. Thank you very much for everything.'

G. M. BOUMPHREY
TONIGHT starts a series that should have wide appeal, for at least three separate types of listeners are catered for : those who are fascinated by relics of the past and by means of them can visualise history out of their imagination ; those who love lonely places ; and those who like walking and seek to give a point to their expeditions.
Mr. G. M. Boumphrey is making a tour, chiefly on foot, along various Roman ways, and he will return each Friday to the microphone to give his experiences and describe his adventures. His talks are not to be dry and technical. The kind of things that appealed to
George Borrow appeal to Mr. Boumphrey-place-names, folk-lore, nature ; things seen and met with on the road.
For his first talk which he is to give this evening Mr. Boumphrey will start from Silchester, south of Reading, and will touch the following places : Grateley Camp, Old Sarum (north of Salisbury), Woodyates, Cranbourne, Badbury Camp, Maiden Castie at Dorchester, and, finally, Eggardun Camp, near Bridport. Mr. Boumphrey introduces this new series in a short article which appears on page 420.
