Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
The Guild of Aid for Gentlepeople gives help to men and women of gentle birth or good education who by reason of old age, illness, or other disability are unable to work. The help given is chiefly by way of small monthly grants reconsidered at stated intervals; also by grants of money for special needs.
The Homes of Rest for Gentlewomen provide comfortably furnished bed-sitting rooms' with full board for ladies under the age of seventy-five years at the time of entry. Residents, whose income must not exceed about £ 150 a year, pay what they can according to their means, and are cared for till the end of their lives.

'Irene, wife of Soames Forsyte, the Man of Property, has fallen in love with Philip Bosinney who is already betrothed to Jolyon's daughter June. So far, Soames appears to have been the last one to notice this, since he is used to his wife's icy treatment in any case. But at last the local gossip comes to his unwilling ears, and a horrible scene takes place between them when he tries to 'insist upon his rights ' as a husband. Meanwhile, the outraged man is also bringing a case against Philip Bosinney as architect working on the task of designing a country house for him. Bosinney has overstepped the price agreed upon.
The gossip in Timothy's house on the Bayswater Road has now reached fever pitch, as young Jolyon continues with the story of the fabulous Forsytes.
