An old fable renovated by Bernard Shaw
Cast
Romans, gladiators, Christians, etc.
Produced by John Cheatle
This, one of the most original of Shaw's plays, was originally produced by that great Shaw producer, H. Granville-Barker , at the St. James's Theatre, 1913, and has enjoyed many revivals both in London and in repertory throughout the country. Incorrigibly Shaw finds material for humour and argument in the plight of a band of Christians about to be thrown to the lions. And Androcles himself, with his innate kindness and simplicity, is one of the most charming, as he is one of the most human of all Shaw's characters.
