The first of three talks on the work of Parish Councils in the war, by L. Ramsbottom
Never in the history of the nation has local govirnment been called upon to make such efforts and assume such responsibilities as at present. Smallest of all the local authorities are the Parish Councils which look after the interests of the small rural community, and since the war, have been faced with problems of evacuation, local defence, and other wartime measures.
Laurance Ramsbottom is Secretary of the Central Parish Councils Committee of the National Council of Social Service.

BBC Theatre Chorus, BBC Theatre Orchestra, leader Tate Gilder , conducted by Reginald Burston. Adaptation and production by Desmond Davis
Jolly Roger , which was first produced in Manchester in 1933, and later at the Savoy and Lyceum Theatres in London, will be remembered as a rollicking, tuneful show, in which George Robey added yet another leaf to his laurels, for it was the first time he had appeared in any production of the operetta type. There is a close tie between this radio production and the original. That delightful singer Percy Heming will be playing the same part as he did on the stage, and Reginald Burston , who is responsible for the musical side of tonight's show, was musical director of the original production at the Savoy Theatre.
