A commentary during the second half of the Regional League Competition match, by Raymond Glendenning , from the Town Ground,
Luton
Raymond Glendenning, who gave the commentaries on this year's Cambridgeshire and Cesarewitch, was a radio actor at the Cardiff Station of the BBC for five years before he joined the staff in 1932 as an announcer. In 1935 he was transferred to Belfast as Outside Broadcasts assistant and so came into touch with sport on the air. In due course he was giving fluent commentaries on water-polo, point-to-points, steeplechasing and flat racing. Badminton, table-tennis, darts, lawn tennis, and Association football.
Among his big sports commentaries have been: the R.A.C. Tourist
Trophy Race, 1936 (Ulster) and 1937 (Donington), the Ulster Grand Prix Motor Cycle Race, 1936, 1937, and 1939, the 'North West 200' Motor Cycle Race, 1938 and 1939, the Ulster Derby, 1938 and 1939, the first Ulster Grand National, 1939, and the Cesarewitch, 1938, apart from this year's big back-end handicaps already mentioned.
As to Association football, he gave no fewer than twenty commentaries on matches in the Irish League throughout the season 1938-39, approximately one a fortnight, also several Internationals.
