Listeners, declares Ernest Longstaffe , have had plenty of programmes with such titles as ' Vivacious Vienna', ' Beautiful Budapest',' Sunny Spain', and so on, so that he is quite unrepentant about presenting a perfectly straightforward forty minutes in praise of Britain.
The first edition of this programme was broadcast on March 27, when listeners heard both ' live ' and recorded material typical of various parts of Britain. On that occasion each turn was introduced by a compere representative of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. Tonight commeres will take the place of comperes, and Longstaffe has been engaged on a careful search to find the right girls for the job.
' British and proud of it' will once more give listeners a picture of their own country in terms of song, music, and personality.
