John Sweeney reports on the trade in human traffic across the Strait of Malacca, between
Malaysia and Sumatra. Asia's economic crisis has caused several thousand immigrant workers to be deported from
Malaysia, some of whom face persecution in Indonesia, while thousands of Indonesians are trying to escape the oppressive regime of President Suharto.
Kevin Connolly investigates a successful new version of "care in the community" in the medieval French town of Ainay-le-Chateau, whereby residents are paid to share their homes with the mentally ill. And, from Rosh Ha'ayin in Israel,
David Sells unravels the bizarre story of hundreds of babies who were stolen during the state's founding 50 years ago.

A documentary that follows archaeologist Dr Tony Spawforth as he travels through South America and the Caribbean in search of the kingdom coveted by 16th-century European conquistadors.
The gold-seekers, working on the rumourthat somewhere in the continent's mountains and jungle heartland lay an embarrassment of riches, called their elusive prize El Dorado. On their trek, they encountered sights that both amazed and appalled them: armies led by mummified ancestors, children sacrificed to the sun and gods appeased with gold.
Four hundred years after the conquistadors' quest, Dr Spawforth travels to Colombia to undertake a new search for the kingdom. His investigations take him to the lost land of the Muisca, where he discovers fresh evidence about theirgods, their sacred lakes and their extraordinary use of gold. Gaining an insight into their spiritual world leads to new revelations about El Dorado that eluded the conquistadors.

A film showing in two parts, directed by Claude Lanzmann -maker of the highly acclaimed
Holocaust documentary, Shoah - and broadcast as part of the BBC's commemoration of Israel's 50th year.
The Israeli Defence Forces, known as Tsahal, have been essential to the peace process and to the state's continued existence through six major wars and half a century of being on permanent alert. A cross-section of soldiers, writers, academics and settlers recall their experiences as the film traces the longjourney Israel has made towards recognition.
In this first part, Lanzmann's subjects tell a multi-layered account of the wars, building up an intimate reflection of events as witnessed by their protagonists. Through its tales of weapons, assaults and subterfuge, the film broaches themes of fear and courage in an overview of the links between the non-violent Jews of the Holocaust and their bellicose modern counterparts. Tsahal concludes tomorrow at llpm. Executive producerpaut Hamann: Editor
