It was possibly the most remarkable contest of the general election campaign. The Labour and Liberal Democrat candidates withdrew from the fight for Tatton, Cheshire, to make way for independent candidate Martin Bell, a former BBC foreign correspondent.
Bell's only opponent in this two-horse race was Tory incumbent Neil Hamilton. Bell expected his candidacy to be short; Hamilton was expected to stand down and local Conservatives would be able to put forward their own choice of candidate. This documentary tells the real story behind an extraordinary political event.
