The Commissions and Collaborations season continues with Outing Art, taking a look at what happens when art is taken out of the gallery and put on the streets. To find out, the BBC commissioned 20 British artists to make original works to be shown on advertising billboards throughout the UK for the month of May.
The artists range from the well-known - Howard Hodgkin , Richard Hamilton and Helen Chadwick - to the newly infamous Damien Hirst. How they responded to the challenge, and what the public thinks of the resulting images, is investigated by art critic Andrew Graham-Dixon .
Executive producer
Keith Alexander says, "We're very excited at the amazing response we've had.... and we particularly welcome the collaboration of Radio Times as co-sponsor of the project. The magazine has a fine record in commissioning art work, with past covers from such eminent artists as Paul Nash ,
Rex Whistler , Ralph Steadman and Ronald Searle. "
Producer Sheree Folkson
