Pottery
'I've always been fascinated by trees, I've loved them. I can't remember what made me do the first one, but I did a fruit tree with very large and live apples on it - it made you feel you wanted to pick them.'
Tessa Fuchs has a love for the countryside and takes delight in colour. These pleasures feature strongly in her work as a potter. In her studio in Kingston-upon-Thames she demonstrates and talks about the landscapes that she makes in clay.

The Human Factor
This summer the National
History Museum of Bulgaria in Sofia put on display more than 160 silver bowls and jugs, which had been found a few months earlier by a farmer and his wife digging an irrigation ditch.
In early 1952, the St Louis Museum first revealed a magnificent statue of Diana, hailed as 'the most important Etruscan revelation since the discovery of the Apollo of Veii in 1916'. Both were treasures of art from civilisations which controlled huge areas of Europe more than 2,500 years ago - but one was a masterly fake.
Peter France presents two films which relate how the peasant farmer stumbled across the largest Thracian treasure ever discovered, and how an Italian who 'imitated the past' has become known as one of the greatest forgers of all time.

A series of films on the way we live now
There are no clues as to who will be Prime Minister in 30 years' time. But the person who will be 'Sir Humphrey' is about to undergo the decades of grooming that the Civil Service applies to its top people.
Each year, Whitehall recruits about 100 of the country's brightest graduates in what it calls its 'Fast Stream Selection Process'. Batches of hopefuls come to Whitehall for two gruelling days.
What happens behind the closed doors has never been filmed before. The candidates face hours of searching interviews, discussions and tests in which they have to make their mark.
One is Tim Cooke, educated at comprehensive school and Oxford before joining the GLC. Will his background be an advantage?
Evelyn Child was a candidate last year. She felt intimidated by the mandarins and was a 'near miss'. Will she do better this time?
