Royal Dreams
Castles in the air that actually got built, legendary sagas that actually took form, as some of the greatest operas ever heard: the dreams were those of Ludwig II of Bavaria, creator of fairy-tale palaces on mountain tops and lake-sides, patron and friend of Richard Wagner - the king who at the age of 41, deposed and declared mad, died by drowning in the Starnbergersee. This is the story of his life, seen through his portraits and photographs and the marvellous castles he built - and the imagination of film director Luchino Visconti (The Damned and Death in Venice) who at the moment is re-creating the story of Ludwig, with Helmut Berger in the role of the king.

The Family
The book just published here about Charles Manson and the appalling Tate-Labianca murders in America - events involving drugs, satanism, torture and a band of hippy girl disciples. What did all this mean? What are the implications? What were the dangers involved in writing such a book?
Jim Douglas Henry talking to Ed Sanders, author of The Family, poet and one-time leader of a rock group, at a time when Sanders still felt frightened for his life.
