starring Audie Murphy, Chill Wills.

Jim Harvey, a young scout, is wrongly accused of cowardice and desertion when a wagon-train he is guiding is attacked by savage Indians. With the aid of his horse Tumbleweed, a deceptively decrepit animal, Harvey sets out to prove his innocence of complicity in the massacre.
Audie Murphy established himself early in his career as a popular Western hero. It was he who was chosen to re-create the name part when the earlier James Stewart-Marlene Dietrich movie, "Destry Rides Again", was remade.

Gordon Wilkins covers the world of holiday motoring

with Polly Elwes
When the first motels opened in Britain some twenty years ago they had rooms which were simple and cheap. Today three in every ten motels in this country charge more than £5 a night for a bed and often offer ambitious menus. What happened to the original idea behind British motels and why haven't more of them been built?
With a week to go before the Whitsun holiday Wheelbase reports on the motel mystery from Maidenhead in Berkshire.

A series of film reports by Trevor Philpott

The number of British people going abroad to retire is doubling every year. The Englishman's dream of a pleasant old age is no longer one of roses round a cottage door in Devon; it is more likely to be geraniums round a Mediterranean balcony. He wants a little place where the taxes are low and living is easy and the sun is always shining.
A vast industry has grown up to make his dream come true, an industry which has grown fat selling plots of sunshine all the way from Greece to the Caribbean. And every year when retirement day arrives thousands of ordinary British people sell up their homes in Britain and head for the sun to live in a foreign land. They are looking for a warmer, brighter, happier life. Do they find it? What is the price they have to pay?

The weekly arts magazine

The Return of Holman Hunt
A large exhibition of pictures at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London makes it possible to re-examine Holman Hunt-the artist for so long considered to typify all that was best and worst in Victorian art. Edwin Mullins introduces a film which includes among other old favourites 'The Scapegoat' and 'The Light of the World.'

Three Passions
The longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. These three passions; according to Bertrand Russell, have governed his life. This week Volume 3 of his monumental Autobiography is published. The two previous volumes have already been compared with Rousseau and Pascal.
Tonight Release looks at Russell, his three passions, and the controversy they have aroused, with the help of his own reminiscences on tape and film. Other contributors include his family and friends, Michael Foot, M.P., and Professor A.J. Ayer.

Starring Barbara Stanwyck, Paul Douglas, Robert Ryan, Marilyn Monroe

Mae Doyle returns to her native town after years of big-city living. She marries a simple fishing-boat captain for security but comes to prefer the virility of his best friend, Earl, a cinema projectionist. Against the background of a remote, rugged fishing village on America's west coast their triangle drama is played out.
It is interesting to see Marilyn Monroe in one of her early roles - as Mae's sister-in-law who admires the sophisticated city girl.
