by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
Dramatised by Frederick Gotfurt.

Tsarist Russia in the middle of the last century, a vast slumbering country where an ancient fatalistic barbarism was overlaid by the thinnest possible crust of civilisation, is the setting for this six-part dramatisation of Dostoevsky's novel.
It is the story of three brothers, differing widely in character. In childhood abandoned by their father to be brought up by relatives and servants, they are now young adults about to be reunited.
Recorded in the BBC's Glasgow studio

Rene Cutforth looks for the clues in the life-story of this gay young man who never dreamed he would be a secret agent or run an intelligence agency.
