Actress and singer Bette Midler recalls singer/songwriter Laura Nyro , whose four LPs of the late 1960s never caught on with American record buyers like the big-hit cover versions of her songs - Stoned Soul Picnic (The 5th Dimension), Eli's Coming
(Three Dog Night), And When I Die (Blood, Sweat and Tears), Stoney End (Barbra Streisand ) and, most triumphantly, Wedding Bell Blues (The 5th Dimension). Nyro died of cancer in 1997, aged 49. Producer Dave Barber
