1/4. In this decidedly populist approach to pop and rock, Kate Thornton slams the door on the critics to celebrate four relatively uncool albums that struck a chord with the public and each sold over ten million copies globally. She starts with the 1977 release Bat out of Hell.
A collaborative effort between singer Meat Loaf (Marvin Lee Aday) and producer/arranger Jim Steinman, this raucously camp long-player peaked at number nine in the UK and number 14 in the USA, but had staying power to match its seismically theatrical gestures. Defining tracks include You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth, Two out of Three Ain't Bad, Paradise by the Dashboard Light and Bat out of Hell.
