A new four-part series in which Lionel Blair recalls the heyday of British ballroom dancing. It kept alive the quickstep, jive and rumba from the thirties to the sixties and, at its peak, was the launching pad for three out of four marriages. The series meets the original dance-floor enthusiasts as well as the musicians and bandleaders.
The import of American jazz after the First World War gave rise to a dance band craze all over Britain. A trip to Blackpool's Tower Ballroom triggers some key memories.
