This year's City of London Festival features French music, as well as celebrating the abolition of the slave trade 200 years ago. Tonight's concert from the Middle Temple Hall by Les Siecles incorporates both those themes. Works by Lully and Rameau are combined with the Violin Concerto No 2 by the Chevalier de Saint-Georges. He was the son of a black slave and a white plantation worker who became a successful violinist and composer as well as the French revolutionary army's first black colonel. Forty years after Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead made playwright Tom Stoppard 's an overnight success, Matthew Sweet and guests explore the play's origins and legacy with those that have been involved in bringing it to the stage, including the director of the very first production, Derek Goldby. The new production of the play will be broadcast on Radio 3 on the 15th July.
