Orchestra, under new associate guest conductor Stefan Solyom , perform a selection of music, including Strauss's Don Juan , Haydn's Symphony No 68 in B flat and the world premiere of a BBC commission by Edward McGuire called Hall of Memories. In a programme celebrating the 80th anniversary of Miles Davis 's birth, Jez Nelson presents a rare archive recording of the great trumpeter live in concert. Recorded in Rotterdam in November 1969, the concert also features
Chick Corea on electric keyboard, saxophonist Wayne Shorter , bass player Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette on drums. Falling between Davis's early acoustic period and his electric bands of the 1970s, this band was rarely documented on record, and this is the first time this concert has been broadcast in the UK.
