John Dowland : the Man and the Myth
Dowland was one of the greatest musicians of the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras, and information about his life is plentiful. Yet the truth about his life is still shrouded in mystery. Don Carlo , heir to the Spanish throne, has been promised to Elisabeth, daughter of the King of France, to promote peace between the two nations. They meet and fall in love, but it's then decided that Elisabeth should marry Carlo's father, Philip II of Spain, instead. Verdi's epic opera contains some of his most dramatic and memorable music, and is sung by a top cast including Sondra Radvanovsky , Violeta Urmana and Richard Margison.
