Although Frank Zappa , who died ten years ago, claimed that he didn't likejazz, much of his music shows a jazz influence and he has in turn influenced contemporary jazz. Jez Nelson presents a studio session from some of the dazzling improvisers that were instrumental in creating Zappa's music.
Recorded in Los Angeles in November, the group reunites some of Zappa's finest sidemen, including the legendary drummer Vinnie Colaiuta , brass players Walt and Bruce Fowler , bassist Arthur Barrow and keyboard player Tommy Mars. The band perform some classic Zappa material, as well as some specially written originals. Plus a roundup of the best new jazz CD releases.
