The Zawinul Syndicate. Jez Nelson presents an eagerly awaited concert by Austrian jazz legend, the keyboardist and composer Joe Zawinul. Across a career spanning 50s Dinah Washington, 60s Cannonball Adderley, and electric Miles Davis in the 60s and 70s, Zawinul established himself both as a pianist and as an original and prolific composer, with standards such as Birdland, Mercy Mercy Mercy, and In a Silent Way. In the 70s and 80s Zawinul's stature was assured as a founding member (alongside Wayne Shorter ) of the seminal fusion group
Weather Report. The current Syndicate line-up features Cameroonian bassist
