5: Eyot Island, Weybridge. Donald Macleod visits Richard D'Oyly Carte 's private island on the River Thames to the west of London.
There Sullivan composed much of the music for his last three collaborations with Gilbert
- The Gondoliers, Utopia Limited and The Grand Duke- as well as for other light operas such as The Emerald Isle. In 1890 he composed his first grand opera,
Ivanhoe. Plus excerpts from his incidental music for The Merchant of Venice and his balletforthe 1897 Jubilee, Victoria and Merrie England. Finally, his most famous or infamous song, The Lost Chord.

Joe Lovano. Julian Joseph meets Italian-American tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano , whose 50th birthday is this weekend. Lovano talks about his childhood and first experiences of music in Cleveland, Ohio, and early work in the bands of Woody Herman and Lonnie Smith. His own projects have included collaborations with drummer Paul Motian , guitarist Bill Frisell and composer-arranger Gunther Schuller.
