r Michael Berkeley 's guest today is the novelist Ronald Blythe , whose semi-fictional portrait of an East Anglian village, Akenfield, won the Heinemann Award on its publication in 1969. Ronald Blythe has also edited letters and diaries from the Second World War. and his most recent book comprises reminiscences of a group of influential EastAnglian painters. including Paul Nash. His musical choices range from Tallis, Britten and Butterworth to Peter Paul Nash and Cole Porter. Executive producer Wendy Thompson

The Private Passions (12 noon R3) revealed by the writer Ronald Blythe, on the other hand, are strictly musical and predominantly English: they include that most achingly nostalgic piece of Butterworth/Housman "Is my team ploughing?"
