Tonight's performance at the Royal Albert Hall includes "a renewal of the spirit" from American composer Roger Reynolds, a new commission which combines live sound with recordings of orchestra and singers to surround the audience. Mahler's titanic Symphony No 1 quotes the folk melody Frere Jacques and, with its extra Blumine movement, frames the piece.
