Wolsey's college in Oxford, now known as Christ
Church. The programme of church music performed by the Sixteen, director Harry Christophers , is interspersed with settings of the In Nomine played on the organ by Paul Nicholson. Ian McQueen 's tough new opera East and West was premiered last July at
London's Almeida theatre.
Dealing with the racial tensions between a Muslim family in exile from Bosnia and a hostile fascist community in Germany, the opera is also a love story set in a brutal world of hatred and enmity.
Recorded specially for this programme, the opera is introduced by Paul Driver in conversation with Ian McQueen
and co-librettist Jonathan Moore.
