Antonio Salieri 's French opera in a prologue and five acts (1787) to an original libretto by BEAUMARCHAIS.
Written in the grand tradition of Rameau and Gluck, though with a strong comic streak, the opera enthusiastically embraces the tenets ofLiberte, egalite et fraternité which were to ignite France two years later. The setting is the legendary Muslim kingdom of Ormuz. The prologue: (soprano) (bass)
The opera: (baritone) (tenor) (mezzo-soprano) (baritone) (baritone) (baritone) (tenor) (soprano)
