This black American songster and guitarist, whose real name was Huddie Ledbetter. was born on 29 January 1889. Paul Oliver marks this centenary with two programmes in which he looks at the life and music of this talented but often violent man. This week, Leadbelly's early life in the South and his discovery by the folklorist John Lomax in Angola Penitentiary, Louisiana. (Mono)
