In this final programme Francis Smith shows how the essential rhythmic ingredients of the blues can be used to express the joys and delights of life.
Among the records he includes are Jazzbo Stomp by the Memphis Jug Band, Evan's Shuffle by Muddy Waters, and Hit-tin' the Bottle Stomp by the Mississippi Jook Band.

Prokofiev's music from Eugene Onegin was never performed in his lifetime. Edward Downes. the conductor of Friday's world premiere on Radio 3, talks about the differing approaches of Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev, the later use Prokofiev made of the thematic material and the relation of the music to the composer's subsequent development.
