The historian E.H. Carr worked for 26 years on his definitive history of Soviet Russia. Before that, he was an Assistant Editor on The Times during the Second World War, and before that he was with the Foreign Office, where one of his main tasks was to attend the 1919 Peace Conference. This afternoon his choice of records is taken mainly from that 'blessed century' 1750-1850, and includes a personal reminiscence of Artur Schnabel.
