These two Catalan composers, born in 1860 and 1867 respectively, although very different in character, had remarkably parallel careers; both were renowned piano virtuosi: both wanted to achieve success with their operas, but in fact produced masterpieces of the piano repertoire; and both died at the early age Of 48.

The last of three 1978 Bampton Lectures in a shortened version prepared and delivered by the author Dr A. R. Peacocke , Dean of Clare College, Cambridge.
In this lecture (the sixth in the original series of eight) Dr Peacocke discusses the notion of God as source of meaning and intelligibility for man. and the relevance to this of Jesus the Christ.
