Ars Antiqua Secular Motets Devised and introduced by Basil Lam
These motets, based on fragments of plainsong or popular melodies, come from the vast repertoire which nourished around Paris mostly in the 13th century. They may be regarded as the earliest chamber music; and different though they are from the Renaissance church motets, they show highly developed and subtle techniques in the combining of melodies.
