The Songs of Francis Poulenc
Poulenc kept a song-writing diary, recording his feelings about all his songs. The title of his diary has been borrowed for this biographical series, which creates in 13 instalments the most complete picture of Poulenc yet assembled for broadcasting, largely in terms of his progress as a songwriter. Performances are a mixture of the newly-taped and historic recordings. Much of his other music is included too, as well as works of his contemporaries and other music that mattered to him.
