A portrait of the American composer by Robert Layton who visited him at his home in Chatauqua some months ago. Howard Hanson. who is 80 this year. composed six symphonies and was for many years conductor of the Eastman-Rochester Symphony Orchestra. He was also an influ
ential figure in American musical education as Director of the Eastman School for no less than four decades.
