Ivan Sutton. who founded the City Music Society in London in 1943. has recently abandoned his career as a tea merchant to become an impresario. He relates how his life in music all started with a wind-up gramophone with a broken spring by a hospital bed; his personal choice of records includes Litolffs Scherzo with IRENE SCHARRER as soloist. MYRA BESS playing Beethoven, BEECHAM conducting Handel, a movement from a Haydn Quartet, and the Adagio from Schubert's String Quintet in which the TANEYEV QmRTET is joined by ROSTROPOVICH.
