Cowboys without Rhinestones The term 'country and western' evokes images of singers in ten-gallon hats, dripping sweat, sincerity and rhinestones as they croon cliches to the accompaniment of twanging guitars. But times have changed, folks, and a sparer, tougher music, much closer to the origins of country music is now attracting an enthusiastic young audience in Britain. Paul Vaughan investigates 'New Country'.
Producer JULIAN MAY

5: A. S. Neill 'Neill Neill Orange Peel'
If every kid in the world could call his teacher Orange Peel, my mail would not be filled with letters beginning: 'I hate my school: can I come to Summerhill?'
So wrote A. S. Neill , world famous educationist and founder of Summerhill, the most admired of all progressive schools. Over 60 years ago he rebelled against the barbarity of formal education and his own Scottish Calvinist background. His belief in freedom and self-government for children has had a profound effect on teaching throughout the world. Written and presented by Hugh Sykes
